The B.Sc. (Hons. / Hons. with Research) Forensic Science program at the Department of Forensic Science, SBAS, MGM University, is a four-year undergraduate program designed to build a strong foundation in forensic principles, scientific investigation, and evidence-based justice delivery. Spanning eight semesters, the program integrates core scientific disciplines with specialized forensic applications, offering a multidisciplinary and practical approach to learning.
The curriculum covers essential subjects such as Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Physics in Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Digital and Cyber Forensics, Questioned Documents, Forensic Medicine, and Law and Ethics in Forensic Science. Emphasis is placed on hands-on training through laboratory work, field simulations, and exposure to real-world crime scene scenarios.
This B.Sc. (Hons.) Forensic Science program has been curated by applying the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and hence our students have the benefit of not only gaining vast knowledge of core forensic science subjects, but also pursuing a minor degree. The Department of Forensic Science offers three minors to our undergraduate students – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Psychology, and Cyber Security. Furthermore, the forensic science students of MGMU also have other capability building subjects across their four years, such as open electives, co-curricular courses, community engagement projects, Ability Enhancement Courses, Value Education Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses, etc.
Students gain practical experience in crime scene reconstruction, evidence collection and analysis, fingerprint examination, serological testing, and forensic photography. Regular industry internships, field visits, and guest lectures by forensic experts and law enforcement professionals further bridge the gap between theory and practice.
The program encourages student-led research, case study analysis, and seminar participation, nurturing analytical thinking, scientific communication, and ethical responsibility. By the end of the course, students are well-prepared for careers in forensic laboratories, law enforcement agencies, legal consultancies, or for higher studies and competitive exams such as UGC-NET or civil services.
This comprehensive program reflects MGMU’s vision of developing competent forensic professionals equipped to contribute to justice, security, and societal welfare.
