Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, August 25: History enthusiasts experienced a unique Heritage Trail from Pitalkhora to Patnadevi, offering a close encounter with ancient history, archaeology, spirituality, and nature. More than 40 participants explored the region as part of the trail organised by the Shaharnama team.

The initiative was organised with the support of the Department of History and Archaeology, MGM University; Aakhyan Foundation; Garware Community Centre; Adguide Media Pvt. Ltd.; Rotary Club of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar East; and the Central Tourism Department, along with Team Shaharnama.

Moving beyond the concept of a heritage walk, the Heritage Trail aimed to help participants understand history by experiencing it directly at the sites. Dr. Sanjay Paikarav, Secretary of the Murti and Shilpa Research Institute, and archaeologist Ashutosh Patil from MGM University guided participants through the history, archaeological remains, architecture, sculptures, inscriptions, and cultural heritage of Pitalkhora and Patnadevi.

Dr. Paikarav highlighted the significance of the Pitalkhora Caves, particularly their connection with ancient trade routes and their importance in the spread of Buddhism.

Located in the Satmala range of the Sahyadri hills, the Pitalkhora Caves are among Maharashtra’s important ancient Buddhist rock-cut cave complexes. The site features chaityas, viharas, stupas, sculptures, and several archaeological remains. Surrounded by scenic hills, the visit offered participants a unique opportunity to connect with both history and nature.

The group later visited the Patnadevi Temple complex. Situated amidst natural surroundings, Patnadevi is not only a religious site but also an important centre of the region’s rich cultural heritage. Experts highlighted the historical significance of the area, including references associated with renowned mathematician and astronomer Bhaskaracharya.

Participants actively engaged with the experts, asking questions about the caves, sculptures, inscriptions, ancient structures, and their historical significance. Many expressed that experiencing the heritage they had previously read about in history books made the journey memorable and unique.

Sunil Sutawane, Director of Garware Community Centre; Ramakant Rautalle; and Snehal Patil, Assistant Director, India Tourism Department, were present on the occasion.

Heritage Trail Concept Receives Appreciation

The initiative aimed to create awareness about local and lesser-known heritage sites, connect the younger generation with archaeology and history, and foster a sense of heritage conservation. The enthusiastic response to the Pitalkhora–Patnadevi Heritage Trail reflected the growing curiosity among citizens about the rich heritage of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and its surrounding region.

पितळखोरा ते पाटणादेवी.. शहरानामाचा 'हेरिटेज ट्रेल'

छत्रपती संभाजीनगर, दि.२५ : प्राचीन इतिहास, पुरातत्त्वीय ज्ञान, अध्यात्मिक ओळख ते निसर्गाची जवळून अनुभव देणारा 'हेरिटेज ट्रेल' इतिहासप्रेमींनी अनुभवला. शहरानामा टीमच्यावतीने आयोजित ‘पितळखोरा ते पाटणादेवी’ या हेरिटेज ट्रेल’ मध्ये ४० हून अधिक जणांनी या परिसराची प्रत्यक्ष ओळख करून घेतली. एमजीएम विद्यापीठाचा इतिहास व पुरातत्त्व विभाग, आख्यान फाउंडेशन, गरवारे कम्युनिटी सेंटर, अॅडगाइड मीडिया प्रा. लि. , रोटरी क्लब ऑफ छत्रपती संभाजीनगर ईस्ट आणि केंद्रीय पर्यटन विभाग व टीम 'शहरनामा' यांनी केले होते.

हेरिटेज वॉकसोबतच हेरिटेज ट्रेल ही संकल्पना रूजवू पाहताना शहरानामाने केवळ माहिती देण्याऐवजी प्रत्यक्ष स्थळावर इतिहास समजून घेण्याचा प्रयत्न केला.‌ मुर्ती व शिल्प संशोधन संस्थेचे सचिव डॉ.संजय पाईकराव आणि एमजीएम विद्यापीठातील पुरातत्वविद आशुतोष पाटील यांनी पितळखोरा व पाटणादेवी परिसरातील इतिहास, पुरातत्त्वीय अवशेष, स्थापत्यकला, शिल्पकला, शिलालेख आणि सांस्कृतिक वारसा यावर मार्गदर्शन केले.

 पितळखोरा लेणीची माहिती देताना पाईकराव यांनी पितळखोरा लेणीचे महत्त्व अधोरेखित केले.‌ प्राचीन व्यापारी मार्गांशी या परिसराचा असलेल्या या लेणीचा संबंध बौद्ध धर्माच्या प्रसाराच्या दृष्टीने पितळखोऱ्याला विशेष महत्त्व आहे.

सह्याद्रीच्या सातमाळा पर्वतरांगांमध्ये वसलेल्या पितळखोरा लेणी हा महाराष्ट्रातील प्राचीन बौद्ध शैलगृहांचा महत्त्वपूर्ण समूह आहे. या लेण्यांमध्ये चैत्यगृह, विहार, स्तूप, शिल्पकला आणि विविध पुरातत्त्वीय अवशेष पाहायला मिळतात. निसर्गरम्य डोंगररांगांमध्ये वसलेली ही लेणी पाहताना सहभागींचा इतिहास आणि निसर्गाशी संवाद घडला. यानंतर पाटणादेवी मंदिर परिसराला भेट देण्यात आली. निसर्गरम्य परिसरात वसलेले पाटणादेवी हे केवळ धार्मिक स्थळ नसून या प्रदेशाच्या समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक परंपरेचे महत्त्वपूर्ण केंद्र आहे. प्रसिद्ध गणितज्ञ आणि खगोलशास्त्रज्ञ भास्कराचार्य यांच्याशी निगडित संदर्भ या परिसराशी येत असल्याने पाटणादेवीचे ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व लक्षात घ्यायला हवे, असे तज्ज्ञांनी सांगितले‌. लेणी, शिल्पे, शिलालेख, प्राचीन वास्तू आणि त्यामागील इतिहास याबाबत सहभागींनी प्रश्न विचारत उत्स्फूर्त संवाद साधला. इतिहासाच्या पुस्तकांमध्ये वाचलेला वारसा प्रत्यक्ष स्थळावर जाऊन अनुभवता आल्याने हा अनुभव अत्यंत वेगळा आणि संस्मरणीय ठरल्याची भावना उपस्थितांनी बोलून दाखवली.

यावेळी गरवारे कम्युनिटी सेंटरचे संचालक सुनील सुतवणे, रमाकांत रौतल्ले, भारत पर्यटन विभागाच्या सहाय्यक निदेशक स्नेहल पाटील उपस्थित होत्या.

हेरिटेज 'ट्रेल'ची संकल्पना आवडली

स्थानिक आणि दुर्लक्षित ऐतिहासिक वारसा स्थळांबाबत जनजागृती निर्माण करणे, तरुण पिढीला पुरातत्त्व आणि इतिहासाशी जोडताना वारसा संवर्धनाची भावना निर्माण करणे हा या उपक्रमाचा प्रमुख उद्देश होता. पितळखोरा ते पाटणादेवी हेरिटेज ट्रेलला मिळालेला उत्स्फूर्त प्रतिसाद हा छत्रपती संभाजीनगर आणि परिसरातील समृद्ध वारसा स्थळांविषयी नागरिकांमध्ये वाढत असलेल्या कुतूहलाचे उत्तम उदाहरण ठरला.
